Elara Southerlin is the daughter of the Dragon Queen Melgara. Zendar is an intriguing man depicted as an enemy; he's cold-hearted and willing to do whatever it takes to attain power. But underneath beats the heart of a man worthy of love. Can he unbend enough to allow Elara to soothe his pain and salvage his soul from the pain and misery it's mired in?

This story primarily centers on Elara, Rand, Darrek, and Zendar. Elara's mother, Queen Melgara, is the only secondary character who plays an important role in their lives. Queen Melgara is in the unenviable position of forcing Elara to face facts and make a choice that's good for both the kingdom and Elara. The queen has a real talent for being both complimentary and confrontational at the same time. This is probably a trait that all great leaders possess (or could use).
