Somewhere in the
middle of the United States, onboard a Sheloni spaceship and an
uninhabited planet - Present Day
When a woman is
driving alone on an unfamiliar road in the dead of night, a lot of
possible hazardous scenarios come to mind: an animal running across
the road, a flat tire, the battery going dead. One possibility that
she probably wouldn’t picture? Being captured by aliens for use in a
breeding program. Sabrina “Bri” MacIntyre certainly never thought
such a thing could happen, but it did, and now she has to face the
fact that aliens are real and she’ll probably never see Earth again.
Many of the
Hirachi (an alien race with very large builds and yellowish skin)
have been captured by the Sheloni (a delicately built alien race
with highly advanced technology) for use as slaves. The warlike
women of the Hirachi are resistant to having babies that will grow
into slaves, going so far as to kill them when they’re born. Kole
and Dansk, two Hirachi males, have noticed that their females are
becoming less and less visible in their habitat aboard the Sheloni
ship, and then the small, weak, female creatures appeared. Surely
the Sheloni don’t think they will breed with these women, do they?
Although, both Kole and Dansk must admit that there’s something very
appealing about the delicate women, Bri in particular strikes a
chord with both of them.
When the
Hirachi’s instincts to mate are brought to the fore, it may be a
fight to the death for the right to possess Bri. And Bri’s
instincts? Well, they’re shouting loud and clear that both Kole and
Dansk are extremely appealing, so who does she hope will win? You’ll
just have to read GENESIS to find out.
In GENESIS,
Kaitlyn O’Connor has created a highly imaginative, well thought out
world with characters that you’ll grow to care about and an ending
that’s unexpected. Bri undergoes quite a transformation during the
story. In the beginning she’s a bit spoiled, complacent and used to
being able to control her destiny, at least as much as any of us
can. But, then she comes up against circumstances she can’t defeat.
After all, even if you were to take over a spaceship, could you
figure out how to fly it back home? When she becomes involved with
Kole and Dansk, she realizes that even though they’re not human,
they have much in common, maybe enough that there could be a real
future for them. Kole and Dansk are each interesting men. Kole is
more the strong silent type, and Dansk leans towards the emotional -
ready, willing, and able to shower tenderness on Bri. Each man is
extremely well built and may inspire some very naughty daydreams in
readers. The connection between the main characters is realistic and
so are the emotions that they go through as they try to figure out a
way to regain their freedom and find home once again.
Consuelo is
another Earth woman held in a pen bordering Bri’s. Consuelo and Bri
are each given sickly Hirachi babies to care for, Manuel and Cory.
Becoming “mothers” helps them to become friends despite their
differing languages and backgrounds. It’s amazing how much having
someone depend on you gives you strength and perspective. Even
though they’re being held by the Sheloni, the aliens don’t play a
huge role in the story, as it focuses more on the relationships
between the humans and the Hirachi.
If you love a
great Sci-Fi story and have always thought that Spock (or someone
very like him), would be an interesting person to get to know,
GENESIS is meant for you. Stop by New Concepts and get your copy
