On Terra...in the future...the towns of Orson and Lawler; a train; the Citadel

Even for a Reaper, Bevyn Coure had a horribly gruesome death before the Goddess Morrigunia snatched him away. When he refused to give in to the desires of Countess Kennocha Tramont, he was beaten, tortured and burned on a pyre. Morrigunia put hellion inside him and made him one of her own. He now resides in what was once the United States as a peacekeeper with his assigned territory.

In the town of Orson, he meets Lea Walsh and is drawn to her as he has never before been drawn to a woman. Although she loves him very much, Lea does not wish to have a hellion become part of her, so Bevyn has to be content with having her only as his mate, not his wife.

Marauding Amzeens from the world of Crionna devastate the town of Lawler, which is part of Bevyn's jurisdiction, by kidnapping several young males to take back with them for breeding purposes. Penthesilea Aracnea, a Blackwind Warrioress, is with them. She is a descendant of Kennocha Tramont and has vowed to retrieve Bevyn and take him back with her to die again.. The ship that brought the Amzeens blows up with Captain Antimache and the Terran males, stranding Penthe in unfamiliar territory,

She would take Bevyn as her own if it were not for Lea's surprising strength in defending her rights to have Bevyn all to herself. When Bevyn is summoned to the Citadel, no one could be prepared for the sequence of events that would prove if Penthe could be trusted to help, or if she would take advantage of the situation and cause more harm to Bevyn and Lea.

HER REAPER'S ARMS is a another wonderful addition to Charlotte Boyett-Compo's megaverse. She gives us more of what life is like for the Reapers and how they are very much like ancient Lawkeepers. Secondary characters---Sheriff Buford Gilchrist, Widow Cornelia Jones, the gamber called Riley, Lord Kheelan, and others who live at the Citadel, add depth and focus to the story. Ms. Boyett-Compo knows her characters and never repeats herself with any of them. This book may be a bit more subdued than the others I have read, but the very quietness and somberness leave the reader with more of an understanding of what being a Reaper and a Reaper's Mate means. I recommend it.
