Somewhere in space - Present day

Shay has no intention of buying a slave, but somehow, when she meets the eyes of the beautiful young man with green hair standing on the auction block, her attention is caught. Her course of action isn’t certain though, until Skand Toolon (slaver, pedophile, pirate and all around bad guy) bids on him. Shay was once a slave and there’s no way she’s letting Skand get that poor man for himself. There is one problem though, Skand isn’t likely to take losing lying down, he’ll be after her and the young man, Jaed’aden.

Did I say one problem? Make that two, because it’s a sure bet Shay’s mate and partner, Raerei, isn’t going to be happy she’s bringing another man, and trouble, home to their ship (the Crimson Shackles). A message reveals that Jaed’s younger sister, Silaari, is still alive and their purpose becomes clear: they must rescue her and head for Jaed’s home world. Things are going to get very interesting, not to mention dangerous, fast.

CRIMSON SHACKLES are what once bound Shay and Raerei. Both former slaves, the Aspects (a fierce people whose home planet is Kleeg) still have the blood-stained shackles that once bound them. They also still carry the scars of their imprisonment in their souls and psyches. Raerei is a very dominant male who is convinced that his softer side is gone forever. Shay, though just as dangerous as Raerei, has a definite need to nurture, something he can’t allow her to do to him. Then there’s the complication of Shay’s attraction to Jaed. It’s obvious she’s chosen him as their mate. Determined not to lose her, Rae makes the decision to woo Jaed and make the three of them a family. For her part, Shay is a bit confused by Rae’s willingness to allow her and Jaed to be together, but, she’s very attracted to Jaed and likes how he brings out Rae’s nearly forgotten lighter side. Jaed, now he’s a confused soul indeed. Eleven years spent as a slave has demonstrated that most Mistresses and Masters are cruel, especially those who begin with an appearance of kindness. Trust takes him a while, but he soon decides Shay and Rae are to be trusted and soon, loved as well. The chemistry between all three is fierce and the sex? Well, it could scorch your fingertips.

The most important secondary character in this book is Silaari. She’s an interesting, sad little girl. Her captivity was traumatic and her last Mistress was truly evil. Scarred though Silaari is, her spirit survives and I think she’ll fit in well with Shay and Rae, assuming they survive their adventures. Readers of previous Ta’e’sha books will see some familiar names within the pages of CRIMSON SHACKLES. Kyrin, Sya’tia and Thea are among them. Their appearances in the book are brief, but important. I’d tell you more, but I don’t want to spoil any surprises. :-)

A truly interesting storyline, characters you’ll love, an interesting new race of people (and animals, loved the karracats) and plenty of action ensure that you won’t be bored while reading this story. In fact, if you haven't read any of the previous Ta’e’sha stories (see www.theolynboese.com for a complete listing) I can assure you you’ll want to as soon as you get this one done. Well-written and passionate, CRIMSON SHACKLES deserves a spot on your book buying list.
